Turismebarometer København - 2012 / 2011

2012 was once again a positive year for tourism in Copenhagen.

Hotel benights on average increased by 6.2 % compared to year 2011. There was a positive growth in every month, except for September. The decline in September was caused by the frame of reference September 2011, here the increase was 18,6 %, which was primarily generated by the UCI Road World Championship of Cycling.

Again, in 2012 Copenhagen Airport experienced an increase in the number of passengers. The number of passengers overall increased by 2.7 % compared to 2011. The decline in May was caused by a combination of several bank holidays compared to May 2011 and the bankruptcy of both Cimber Sterling and Skyways. A small decline was also seen in the month of December, which was according to Copenhagen Airport, caused by a longer Christmas holiday, where people returned to Denmark in the beginning of January.

The number of visitors at the Museums in 2012 increased by a total of 15.8 %. The significant rise in April was caused by an increase in the numbers of visitors at both Amalienborg and Christiansborg. The increase in the month of September was the result of a rise in the visiting numbers at The National Museum of Denmark, which experienced a great success with the opening of the exhibition about Indians named Powwow.
